  2. You've never listened to the perfection of Insomniac or American Idiot then?

  3. Carpe Diem isn't a bad song just wasn't recorded the right way...

  5. Well at least it didn't do the same thing as 99 Revolutions and bring the whole thing back up months after it stopped being relevant

  6. Oh come on, how could anyone legitimately argue that WASN'T intentional? Carpe Diem is one of the most obvious clichés there are. It's the hipster version of YOLO. You're right.

  7. Basically, this is the best thread on the forum

  8. I wish there were some way to get bigger versions of his pix; it's so infuriating.

  9. This thread has almost single-handedly ruined 70 percent of what I liked or was indifferent about on the Trilogy tbh

  10. I'm now trying to picture BJA working that phrase into a song. "Let yourself YOLO, let yourself YOLO, let yourself YOOOOOOLOOOOO..." Doesn't quite work, does it?

  11. What I meant is Carpe Diem was promoting the YOLO lifestyle before YOLO was even a thing.

  12. None with more than the trilogy that's for sure

  13. I can't believe this you guys. I'm going to the South Bend, Indiana show this Sunday! I actually have a date to the show too! I just mentioned, on our second date how much I wanted to see this musical again before it closes. I did see it once in Chicago so it's my second time. He just confirmed he purchased tickets! This could be the start of a great relationship. Our third date

  14. I meant lead guitar riffs btw, and I can say pretty easily that every song you listed besides WICA, Brain Stew, and X-Kid have far more important aspects than the lead guitar riffs. I could go through each one if you feel it necessary, but for starters: AI is 95% about the lyrics/attitude. The title alone is what draws people in. 21CB is about huge sound, great harmonies, and lyrics Carpe Diem and KYE are just bad songs And EJN's riff isn't even that good. That song is more about the message by a lot. What I'm really trying to argue is that IDC if they have lead guitar riffs that sound similar to other riffs because that isn't what their songs focus on. They've never been guitarsmiths and I don't think anyone would claim otherwise. Green Day songs are about the melody/lyrics/harmonies/basslines. Now if Eric Johnson was found to be stealing riffs, THEN there is something noteworthy.

  16. Well yeah see, even some of the regulars in this thread post loads of positive stuff. I don't think this thread having lots of posts particularly indicates pessimism when it's only a small number of people making most of the posts and a lot of them aren't even negative.

  17. Well most people are pessimists so it makes sense.

  18. On a side note, it kinda blows my mind that this thread is already at 65 pages. How strange that the Unpopular Opinions thread is the most popular GD-related thread on this site.

  19. I agree that they're the weakest songs on their respective albums, but I don't think there's anything wrong with them per se. Especially with She's A Rebel and Extraordinary Girl, they're nothing amazing in themselves but in the context of the story they work really well and do just what they need to.

  23. I got yelled at in a thread for saying Occupy was lame, but 99 Revolutions like 2 years later was even lamer than that. That's back when everyone was all "TRILOGGGY IS EPIC!!!"

  24. I thought the hipster version of YOLO was YOLO. I didn't know Latin was hipster, anyway.

  25. I want to hear more about the date. Get yourself in the relationship thread and spill! (Or the singles thread if you're more comfortable there.) Oh and of course enjoy the show!!

  27. There are plenty of songs on every GD album that aren't shining examples of Billie's song writing abilities...

  34. You all are probably tired of these by now, but I'm pretty sure I haven't posted these before - at least not in HQ. 4 HQ - FBHT at SXSW on March 15, 2014: (Click images for HQ.)

  35. I like Mike's voice better than Billie's. I also like John's drumming better than Tré's, in a way. I just feel that Tré's style is more suited for poppier songs and John's is better for harder ones. I can only dream of what Insomniac would have been had Mr. Sobrante percussed...
