My jaw literally dropped at the inclusion of Restless Heart Syndrome. And I would definitely disagree with Misery too, great, unusual song.4 points

So strange. I do not believe the Trilogy is the best thing Green Day has done, and I did expect better music than the Trilogy at this point, but I still love most of it and listen to it frequently. There's a few songs I never touch, but I honestly enjoy most of the songs. I can't imagine myself hating all of it.4 points

Sort of random, but also very neat: Tonight I had the privilege to meet Marky Ramone, drummer of the Ramones, who spoke at my school tonight. After the show, I met him privately and he signed my belt and took pictures. During his presentation, though, he spoke a bit about Green Day. These are the random remarks he made: - All three of them are extremely nice guys, and he has hungout with them on many occasions - When the Ramones were inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame, they didn't want to perform due to the recent death of Joey Ramone. Green Day volunteered to play Ramones songs, and apparently they rehearsed a lot and took it very seriously. Marky says that what Green Day did for his band was special and something he will never forget. - When asked about new music he listens to, he mentioned Foreverly, saying that it brings him great joy when artists test themselves and try new things. - He also said that Dookie is an excellent album, and that overall Green Day are very talented musicians.4 points

They thought it sounded neat so they put it there. You can think of it as an intermission rather than part of EG if it helps.3 points

I was thinking how their could easily be an entire class devoted to GreenDayology , studying the different eras/albums and their most important events. I'd fucking take that class in a second3 points

That whole list is horrible. Some of those are my favorite songs! And it's stupid of them to include "The Forgotten" - they said it's "perfectly pleasant… with lovely sentiment behind it," but they included it JUST because it was on the Twilight soundtrack? Being used in a bad movie doesn't make a song bad. That doesn't make sense.2 points

Kerrangs top 11 worst songs by Green Day http://www.kerrang.com/8205/11-songs-wish-green-day-never-recorded/ Can't believe they've said something bad about them2 points

Not exactly a random thought but a random thing... most of my university interviews have involved questions like "what does the philosophy of photography mean to you?" (total bullshit question but that's off topic) but in my last one yesterday the guy asked "is Billie Joe cheating on his wife?"2 points

And as for the simple music discussion. I've said it before and I'll say it again: The music is only the same if you are reading off of a sheet of paper. If you are listening to the songs, they have been developing and expanding on their sound from 39/Smooth to 21CB, the only relapse was seen on the trilogy.2 points

I will say it feels like GD restricted themselves on the trilogy. Instead of letting the songs flow naturally, it feels like they thought, no the songs need to be simple and kept with this old school mindset using and only playing like three chords on different tracks. The majority of the tracks come across as forced because of his. Yes a lot of their earlier work has basic structures and chords but it felt very pure and natural, this is probably why the trilogy didn't work as well. However tracks like Stay the night and Missing you are great examples of a natural yet basic sounding songs.2 points

I think it has a raw, honest emotion not seen elsewhere in the trilogy. People connect with it.2 points

The whole "Green Day isn't punk" argument has no merit for TWO big reasons. 1. Green Day's musical style is punk rock. Anyone who listens to the Sex Pistols and the Ramones would agree. Even Marky Ramone tonight said that Green Day's style is very similar to the Ramones. When I first got into the Sex Pistols, minus the vocals, it was basically Green Day, if maybe a bit heavier. Like I said once before, the Ramones were more poppy than Green Day has ever been. 2. The selling out thing is so dumb. The Sex Pistols were a band that was put together, not formed. Sort of like One Direction. How "punk" is that? The Clash were once hated for signing to a major label. I read a newspaper headline of the announcement of their record deal that read "The Day Punk Died." People just forget eventually. Green Day didn't write American Idiot for money. They had inspiration and made it. And most of the songs on AI as just as "punk" as anything else in their discography.2 points

The Forgotten was a shit song before they put it in Twilight, so it doesn't really make any difference.1 point

All of their Trilogy picks were spot on, but the Warning tracks and RHS are unforgivable.1 point

I agree with putting The Forgotten in there. I think Twilight totally ruined that song for me.1 point

Whaaaat? Restless Heart Syndrome? Also, SDV needed to be pushed closer to the top. It's the only Green Day song that I literally cringed the first time I heard.1 point

Friends don't let friends steal things. I saw Metallica at Bader Field in Atlantic City and there was a guy selling shirts that said "Badger Field." Walmart? We have very different definitions of fat. Poor Ceadog What do you mean?1 point

Nuclear Family, Stay the Night, Kill the DJ and Let Yourself Go, for me. I can't stand Carpe Diem. Fell For You and Sweet 16 aren't necessarily bad, they're just boring. And I think my feelings on Oh Love are pretty clear! As explained by yours truly in the old thread, Lazy Bones is great because:1 point

Same here. The only enjoyment I get out of 90% of the Trilogy is a feeling of nostalgia for when I first heard it and loved it, but truth be told, I don't enjoy most of it. I have a grand total of 21 Trilogy songs in my iTunes library, 13 of which are in a playlist of what I think would make a decent-ish album. If you get banned, then you get a daily posting limit for a little while. Naughty, naughty Ceadog.1 point

To be fair, Marky Ramone seems to be someone who loves music in any form. He kept saying never to knock down other people's music (but he did say Top 40 is shit lol). Johnny Rotten is a pompous asshole who made one album and thinks he's the dictator of music. Plus everything Rotten says is out of jealousy anyway.1 point

My favourite misspelled shirt story was when I went to see Manic Street Preachers on their Send Away The Tigers tour. A guy on the street after the gig was selling Send Away The Lions merch.1 point
