  1. Nuclear Family is one of the best songs on the Trilogy! I've always said I can see it fitting right in on Nimrod.

  2. They really have, though. The production's certainly improved, but with very rare exceptions their songs have always been 4/4 time, 3-4 chord pieces with special attention to melodies. If anything, they've begun regressing rather than changing for the positive—Mike's bass has been practically nonexistent since Warning, and Billie's begun recycling chord progressions rather alarmingly frequently.

  3. Sort of random, but also very neat: Tonight I had the privilege to meet Marky Ramone, drummer of the Ramones, who spoke at my school tonight. After the show, I met him privately and he signed my belt and took pictures. During his presentation, though, he spoke a bit about Green Day. These are the random remarks he made: - All three of them are extremely nice guys, and he has hungout with them on many occasions - When the Ramones were inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame, they didn't want to perform due to the recent death of Joey Ramone. Green Day volunteered to play Ramones songs, and apparently they rehearsed a lot and took it very seriously. Marky says that what Green Day did for his band was special and something he will never forget. - When asked about new music he listens to, he mentioned Foreverly, saying that it brings him great joy when artists test themselves and try new things. - He also said that Dookie is an excellent album, and that overall Green Day are very talented musicians.

  5. And as for the simple music discussion. I've said it before and I'll say it again: The music is only the same if you are reading off of a sheet of paper. If you are listening to the songs, they have been developing and expanding on their sound from 39/Smooth to 21CB, the only relapse was seen on the trilogy.

  6. I agree, I've never liked that song at all and never understood why it seemed to be held in such high regard. As weak an album as Dos is, I actually think it's one of the most forgettable songs of the lot.

  7. All joking and (not joking) Trilogy bashing aside, can someone please explain the appeal of Lazy Bones to me? I just don't get it.

  9. Yeah, it means he no longer has the energy to lift his guitar up and subsequently smash it while going on meaningless, irrelevant tirades about Justin Bieber.

  10. Yeah I did! I heard about the show via the Big Cats twitter page a few hours before. The show was not packed by any means, it was pretty chill. His band played 2nd out of 3. During and after the show he was just hanging out with some friends on the left wall near the stage. No one was really coming up to him or anything. After he played I just went over and said hi. He seemed very down to earth and friendly. He seemed surprised and excited that I had heard about the show through his Little Rock band, then asked my name. Seemed to be in a good mood. I didn't talk Green Day with him, I was mostly curious about this new band (he said this was their first official show and they would probably put something out down the road.) I also chatted with him about The Replacements, because, like him, I am a huge fan, so there was that commonality there. Only Green Day thing: As we were talking he was packing up his messenger bag. When he closed it up, there was a AI Heart Hand grenade patch on the front. That was cool!

  11. I was thinking how their could easily be an entire class devoted to GreenDayology , studying the different eras/albums and their most important events. I'd fucking take that class in a second

  13. Well I do agree, a lot of the songs feel like they need a lot more too them. For example Stop when the red lights flash could have had a brilliant bridge section like it does live, but it doesn't really go anywhere and just goes back into the chorus bit. Obviously some of the lyrics needed a bit more tweaking too.

  16. I can't stand Let Yourself Go. The song is just way too repetitive when they use "Let Yourself Go" 5,000 times in a single song. Just..no. Same with the other songs that show other repetitiveness, as well as those that lack a creative definition in terms of how their lyrics are worded. Some of it, I feel is just too simplistic and feels like they've held no effort in writing certain lyrics, while there was some basis for excitement for what they were writing, they certainly disappointed in various aspects. Although, some of their other songs more than make up for that based on how their music flows and successfully grasps their concept, leaving it open to an alternation of classic Green Day. My favorite songs from the trilogy though: Nuclear Family Amy Wow, that's loud (Although it may sound a bit too overplayed to me) Stay the night Stray heart I don't know how many that is cause I can't be bothered to count the total amount I've listed.

  17. I wasn't bashing, I was just disagreeing and saying why! Well that's no explanation, that's just describing the structure of the song and putting words such as "great" before mentioning any specific element

  18. Nuclear Family, Stay the Night, Kill the DJ and Let Yourself Go, for me. I can't stand Carpe Diem. Fell For You and Sweet 16 aren't necessarily bad, they're just boring. And I think my feelings on Oh Love are pretty clear! As explained by yours truly in the old thread, Lazy Bones is great because:

  19. Even Green Day's Ramones covers don't sound like the Ramones. Tre's drumming is more complex (lol), Mike's bass playing is certainly more complex, Billie sounds nothing like Joey, and Green Day are far more melody-orientated. I mean sure, the Ramones clearly had a massive influence on Green Day, but it only really comes out in terms of broader style. Once you get into the technical details there's a world of difference. As for the Sex Pistols guitar tone, I'll give you that, but it doesn't mean much.

  20. Same here. The only enjoyment I get out of 90% of the Trilogy is a feeling of nostalgia for when I first heard it and loved it, but truth be told, I don't enjoy most of it. I have a grand total of 21 Trilogy songs in my iTunes library, 13 of which are in a playlist of what I think would make a decent-ish album. If you get banned, then you get a daily posting limit for a little while. Naughty, naughty Ceadog.

  21. Yes, actually. It's really hard for me to find some favorite songs off the trilogy as a whole because as you said - most of the songs there are just not like Green Day's original sound. Honestly, the only songs I actually enjoyed has to be Wow that's loud and Nuclear Family. The others just aren't "there" for me as much as their older songs would be, so it's kind of easy to separate the songs from their best work. I still feel more open to AI, but that's probably just me being biased considering it's my favorite album by them thus far.

  22. Not really about Green Day, but cool anyway. Butch Vig is listed as one of the best producer of all the time http://www.nme.com/photos/the-20-best-producers-of-all-time-voted-for-by-nme-readers/335183/1/1?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=producersgallery#17

  23. Right Ankle. Kerplunk is my favourite album and I consider myself an X Kid. The artist said the hyphen would just blur so he didn't include it. Left front hip, complete with Soundwave barrier bruises St Jimmy heart (for Billie) and a slightly edited Tré anchor. This is incomplete, it still needs symbols for Mike and Jase. Left forearm - this one is only 3 weeks old. I got it in Australia after Melbourne Soundwave. Marking 5 shows in 9 months.

  25. To be fair, Marky Ramone seems to be someone who loves music in any form. He kept saying never to knock down other people's music (but he did say Top 40 is shit lol). Johnny Rotten is a pompous asshole who made one album and thinks he's the dictator of music. Plus everything Rotten says is out of jealousy anyway.
