  4. Billie also said 99 Revolutions is the best song he's ever written. I don't trust his opinion lol Also, I've seen the musical twice and I find it weird how everyone sings in a whiny manner. Were they instructed to do that as part of the characters? The only person who sang in their normal voice was Billie's nephew in the current tour (who btw looks like Warning Billie with blonde hair).

  7. The musical version of Letterbomb is an absolute abomination. I love female vocals generally a lot more than male, but Letterbomb is absolutely shit in that respect. Maybe if someone like Pink or Brody Dalle did it it'd work, but the people that do it in the musical are totally inappropriate.

  11. Another One: Longview is the best Green Day song ever. Why? Because it has all the elements to be a great punk rock song-A decent riff, good drumming and an amazing bassline. Its one of those songs to which everybody could relate to. The lyrics are catchy and meaningful. Also, its been 3 years since I first heard it and I still can't get enough of it. You could dance to it, play an air guitar to it and even sleep to it. Many people consider Basket Case or some song from Nimrod, AI or Dookie to be their personal favourite but nobody can deny that they didn't have a thing for Longview at some point in their lives.

  18. I agree, it's so emotionally understated yet epic. As much as I like not suffering through Jaded on the 99 Revs Tour, the segue between AWTW and St. Jimmy is just so good. That moment between the songs, where you know what's coming next, and you have an "Oh, SHIT" realization that you need to hold the fuck on tight, because shit's about to go down? I get it when I listen to the songs in my bedroom; I can only imagine how it would be on the floor (since I wasn't at my 21CB Tour show when they did)!

  20. I'm sure Jeff is no multi-millionaire the way the rest of the band is, but it seems so weird if he's actually being serious about 1. giving lessons and 2. charging an arbitrary "$30" for it.... not that he wouldn't be cool enough to offer lessons, and it makes sense not to do them for free, but it's just such a weird concept.

  26. Totally agree. While AAF has an amazing setlist, there are five things that kill it for me compared to BIAB: 1. The mixing. BIAB just sounds more powerful, somehow. 2. Billie's voice. I like that it sounds more raw on BIAB, and even though we've had this conversation many times, I still think that the vocals on AAF sound fucked-with at places. 3. The fact that BIAB is all from one concert gives it a more consistent feel. 4. Comparing the DVDs, the outdoor setting of BIAB makes it feel much less claustrophobic than the arena in AAF. 5. Best versions of "Brain Stew" and "Minority" ever.

  27. I kind of count Shenanigans as a real album even though it technically may not be. International obviously doesn't count though. I've got an opinion that may be unpopular: BIAB is hands down the best live recording of Green Day ever, there's moments on that album that are so raw and powerful yet others are so beautiful it gives me chills. And I think it's got the best recording of Good Riddance ever

  28. As much as I adore JOS (I mean, I don't even need to go into all the reasons why it's outstanding, do I?) I can kind of understand why people might not like it. It's unquestionably massively overblown, so if you're not into that kind of thing then something like Sweet 16 is bound to appeal more. /uncharacteristically diplomatic post

  29. *sigh* looks like I'm gonna have to defend Lazy Bones again *puts on fighting face* My thoughts on the song taken from the old thread: So there.

  30. So apparently this is unpopular: I really like "Horseshoes and Handgrenades". Is it in the top five on 21CBD? Of course not (that's the title track, EJN, VLG?, RHS and The Static Age), but it has a great riff (even though it was ripped off from someone else, as Not Anyone has demonstrated), packs a pretty big punch, and apart from the computerized scream in the bridge has a pretty great vocal performance form BJA.

  31. So here's an unpopular opinion: I like the countdown at the end of Nuclear Family.

  32. I have to disagree that it's cliched, though. It's so well executed thematically, lyrically and musically, and such an uncommon thing at the time of its release, I wouldn't consider it a cliche.
