  1. Mike has a great punk voice. It doesn't work amazingly with Green Day songs when he does lead, apart from in Homecoming and SD&V, but his voice is perfect for backing vocals. It really complements Billie's voice, and they make each other sound miles better. In some songs Mike is mixed as high as Billie, notably in Having A Blast, most of Homecoming and Scattered, and vocally those songs are incredible.

  2. http://themusic.com.au/news/all/2014/03/04/the-moments-that-defined-soundwave-2014/ THE MOMENTS THAT DEFINED SOUNDWAVE 2014 GREEN DAY Chances are anyone enjoying a quiet beer at Sydney pub the Captain Cook Hotel on Thursday 20 February around 10.30pm won't be forgetting that night in a hurry. Soundwave headliners and veteran rock band Green Day showed up and put on an impromptu set that featured a bunch of their classics. Fans in and around the area could hardly believe their luck, including The Music's Lachlan Marks, who said, “At 10.40pm I was in my underpants working on spreadsheets. By 11pm I'd picked up two friends, parked illegally and run back to the pub.” Photographer for The Music, Cole Bennetts also found himself in the midst of the action and managed to get some great snaps - despite the fog created from all the sweat. The band also impressed at each of their three-hour long headlining festival sets. Mark Hebblewhite of The Music Sydney said, "The band sounded great, Billie Joe Armstrong didn’t miss a note and nostalgia reigned supreme. People will be talking about this set for a long time to come."

  4. I'd welcome more Jason vocals of any kind. Billie and Mike's voices sound great together, but so do Billie and Jason's http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_xyiay8FEU

  5. I agree, it's so emotionally understated yet epic. As much as I like not suffering through Jaded on the 99 Revs Tour, the segue between AWTW and St. Jimmy is just so good. That moment between the songs, where you know what's coming next, and you have an "Oh, SHIT" realization that you need to hold the fuck on tight, because shit's about to go down? I get it when I listen to the songs in my bedroom; I can only imagine how it would be on the floor (since I wasn't at my 21CB Tour show when they did)!

  9. Between singing that and being on the cover of Dos, Mike can't seem to catch a break from being held responsible for things that aren't his fault.

  10. Are We the Waiting not being on the set list is quite possibly the worst set list decision they make consistently. The song is tailor-made for live shows. With its call and response + arena ballad sound. And the first two verses of lyrics are so incredible.

  15. I'm starting to think that this is an unpopular opinion as well: I don't like Mike's singing voice.

  17. They aren't bad but BJ's voice has something that draws attention and that makes all the difference.

  19. It's damn close between JOS and Homecoming. I couldn't possibly choose between them. The thing is, Homecoming feels long, sprawling and diverse, whereas JOS is just so well arranged it takes what should get boring after three minutes and stretches it out into a 9 minute epic that doesn't feel too long at all. I'd argue that Homecoming has the more epic feel, whereas JOS kind of feels a lot more natural. Homecoming seems to be a lot darker, like the evil twin of JOS, so to speak. The backing vocals in JOS are among the best I've ever heard, but Homecoming has leads from Mike and Tre. So it's neck and neck for me.

  20. Oh, I get what you were trying to say, gotcha! I still don't find lions very majestic or beautiful, or even that catlike for that matter, but I acknowledge that other animals act in similar ways, yes. Anyway, Billie is just Billie. He's his own incomparable, beautiful entity. Still don't like lions. Tigers are so much better in my book. Besides, like laly said, Billie can't really be compared to either of them. He is just himself and that's the best there is. Maybe this weekend when I actually have some time to post them.
