  1. Finally saw this when it was in Des Moines this weekend. Last nights show was good, but tonights was AMAZING. My seat was right in front of the stage, I caught St Jimmy's pick at the end, and I met a bunch of the cast outside (in the cold!) afterwards. They were all very kind, especially Billie's nephew Andrew.

  2. Alright Ceadog, I know we agree on a lot of things, but I honestly do think you're talking out of your colon here. Every time the topic comes up you wheel out the same couple of examples, despite the fact there are dozens of examples of him sounding fantastic. I've watched Reading in full and admittedly it's patchy, but it's not consistently awful, as you seem to think. He sounded fucking amazing at Brixton, the only time I've seen the band live since 2010, and personally I think first hand experience counts for more than a recording. And since you were there too you're not allowed to disagree, so there.

  3. Am I the only one who cannot make his brain process the fact that Dookie-era Billie and AI-era Billie are the same person? The difference is just astonishing.

  4. A little thread so people can have a place to share random thoughts that don't really fit anywhere else or warrant their own thread. I'll start. I watched Reading 2013 again tonight for some reason. It was just a suggested video on YouTube, so I put on my headphones and turned it up. God I loved it. Stop When The Red Lights Flash is amazing live. And Billie's vocals on Brutal Love, especially the high part on "Something for my troubled mind", it's just spot on. I watched that part over like 5 times. Watching them perform this mish-mash of songs from their entire career, then throwing in the entirety of Dookie in the middle of it at all, really just reminded me how great their music is. It's nice to be reminded from time to time that you can watch a 2 hour concert of theirs and just fall into the music. Start trying to analyze the songs and how you interpret them, or try to understand what Billie was thinking when he wrote them. There's not a lot of music out there that I really fall into like that. I like catchy tunes, songs that I sing along with and have good melody, but it's very rare for me to really admire a song enough to want to analyze it. So that was the past 2 hours watching this concert. I have all these random thoughts going through my head while watching. "Fuck they sound good." "It's amazing how much sound and energy can be brought on the stage by 3 guys who grew up together". "Fuck what am I doing with my life, I want to bring something positive like that to lots of people". "They need more fast songs like Stop When The Red Lights Flash, that should have been a single. They should have played it on Letterman. It would have been huge." And many many many more thoughts. So feel free to leave your random Green Day thoughts here and we'll see where this goes.

  6. I always thought the lyrics in Warning went: Warning, live without borders, and now I know the real lyrics I think my version is better. And also, in Stray Heart it really sounds like Billie sings I lost my whale baby, this stray heart in the first line. I can't unhear.

  7. Anyone else enjoy going onto the youtube videos of famous songs green day has covered (like a rolling stone, working class hero, a quick one, we are the champions i fought the law etc.) and reading the hate comments? I also have an exciting life.

  10. I love this performance of Letterbomb. Especially the bow at the end. Billie makes that guitar his bitch in last 45 seconds. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=27Jk0WPfPfA

  12. I think Billie's voice was particularly strong in AAF. There's one part in Jesus of Suburbia, where he sings higher at the end of the last time he sings 'no one really seems to care.' Pretty much gives me goosebumps everytime.

  13. I thought Billie sounded great at sxsw (well except for Stray Heart)

  14. I think every tour there are examples where his vocals weren't the strongest. But I don't believe his vocals were weak throughout the tour. I actually think sobriety helped him quite a bit there (lets look back to iHeart to see the worst example). Those two videos you posted, his voice seemed strained, but not to the point where I'd call his vocals weak. I still think he sounds good. So I still completely disagree with your assertion.

  15. Barbara Allen was really cool. So was Silver Haired Daddy of mine. The rest was forgettable, but a great tribute.

  16. You haven't read the Foreverly thread then. It's clear the style of music isn't for everyone. I've only listened through it all once. I appreciate what it is and why they did it, but the music itself isn't my cup of tea.

  18. It only really struck me yesterday how incredible the lyrics of Jesus Of Suburbia are. Obviously loads of people love the "home is where the heart is" line, but every single verse speaks to me on some level. For a song with so many lines to be so consistently great lyrically is just mindblowing. There's just so much that seems to get overlooked due to its length. Plus the craftsmanship in putting so many "soundbite" type lines together and making it not seem over the top is admirable.
