Exactly. I'm so sick of people asking me why they're doing it. Shut the fuck up. Don't question the sun, or it just might burn out.8 points

Green Day release one album after 5 years:People complain... Green Day release three albums in 5 months:People complain... Seems legit7 points

How much would it suck if they were like "lol jk We're just fucking with y'all, we haven't even started recording yet because we were to busy playing ping-pong."7 points

So, this is exciting. But also scary. Here's the thing: in theory, I'd always rather have more Green Day. Their relative lack of B-Sides has always bugged me, especially in light of them always having 30 or 40 songs to pick from for the albums. That we mostly only get live cuts is beyond infuriating, so this is good from that perspective. The bad is that these are not all going to be great albums. They're just not. You know why no one talks about The Beatles' White Album? Because half of it is completely forgettable. I've enjoyed everything Green Day has put out, but they're not immune to it: 21st Century Breakdown is at least 4 songs too long, and both the side-projects were only sporadically great. Three Green Day albums at once (probably) doesn't mean they've been three times as productive, just three times less selective about it. This is, of course, assuming these records are released in the form we assume. They may essentially be long EPs of 6 or 7 songs each. Or perhaps only one is a true Green Day record, and the other two are more akin to a Foxboro/Network thing, despite sharing the group name. No one knows for sure. I do want everything to get released in some form. All these songs, and anything else they've recorded/demoed but never released. Put it all out, and do it yesterday. But, do it as B-sides. Do it as an online only album. Make some of them free. Put them on compilations. Do something, but don't put them on all the 'proper' albums. To me, the joy of a great album is that it's a really focused piece of work, whittled down to the absolute best songs the group had. American Idiot has that quality, as do some others, and my feelings towards those records are warmer precisely because of their brevity. Green Day are incapable of writing anything less than good songs (Christian's Inferno aside), but there's something to be said for being picky and thinking about your broader legacy. No one wants them to be that band, who got so big nobody would say no or rein in their indulgences. No one wants Green Day to be U2. Make the albums perfect. There's plenty of room for the rest elsewhere.6 points

I don't really expect The Boo or Foxboro or anything like that. That just seems like too much under the 'Green Day' banner. I think Green Day themselves are perfectly capable of filling 3 albums with quality music.3 points

The only way I'm looking at this is that, in the next year I will hear over 30 new green day songs (probably closer to 40). That can only be a good thing. I don't see how this can be a bad thing at all3 points

I'm an admin of the Venezuelan (South American) Green Day fan site, and when I got home like half an hour ago and logged on facebook first and saw an update from the site claming that there would be three new albums, instead of just one, I thought: "oh dear, whatever admin posted this is on some serious drugs, what was he thinking? this'll be a mess!" lol. Then I went to the website and found the link to the press release and I'm still puking rainbows.3 points

I don't get how some of you can only focus on the negatives of this. They've announced to us they're releasing not one, not two, but THREE albums. That's amazing all on it's own. Sure, they might not all be full length albums, but any new stuff is good stuff, am I correct? I don't think they'd be taking this gigantic leap of faith if they weren't 100% confident in what they were doing. Yes it's different, but it's Green Day, we can never really expect anything with them. I just think it's stupid to speculate what "could go wrong" when we know so little information.3 points

I trust Green Day to know what they're doing. I don't think they would be doing this if they didn't have the material to support it. A project this ambitious doesn't come from Green Day simply for the publicity or what have you. They've always been about good music first and foremost.3 points

Im just afraid that each album will not get the proper attention that it will deserve them they are all being released so close to each other.3 points

WAIT I just noticed it's "Tre" not "Tres" THIS FUCKING BAND. I CANNOT. TOO PERFECT.2 points

This article seems to confirm that the third album Tré is NOT an album of Tre Cool songs. http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/music_blog/2012/04/green-day-to-unleash-a-trilogy-uno-dos-and-tre.html I think this is a good thing. As much as i love Tre, I don't think the world is ready for a solo album.2 points

Me: Hey mom, Green Day are releasing THREE new albums! My mom: But...why would they do that? Me: They're Green Day. They can do whatever the hell they want.2 points

System of a Down released a double album back in 2005. First 'Mezmerize' with 11 songs, then 'Hypnotize' a few months later, with 12 songs. They are both very strong records and I can't choose a favourite between them. My point being, double albums don't always mean 'lots of mediocre songs', have a little faith in Green Day people! I anticipate lots of great music to come.2 points

Not gonna lie, its almost impossible for DOUBLE albums to be amazing, due to filler, but if any band could make a fucking triple album work, it's Green Day. Can't wait for a track list and that first single, hopefully an album title change.2 points

I agree. The idea of a trilogy worries me though. I hope they don't see making something "epic" as needing to be a concept album again. Honestly, I guess I wouldn't care if it was a concept album. If the music kicked ass, I'd be fine with it. But there were points in 21CB where I felt the music wasn't as strong, maybe too much attention to the storyline and not about the music itself. No I didn't. Just as surprised as everyone else about that.2 points

If they did a story like American Idiot and had 3 parts to it, that'd be amazing. It'd be like the Harry Potter part 1 and 2 movies, you've seen the part 1 but now you're so anxious and can't wait to finish the story with part 2.2 points

At first I thought: This is the greatest thing in the history of punk rock. Then I thought: This is the greatest thing in the history of music. Then I thought: This is the greatest thing in human history. Then I thougt: Next to the Big Bang which created matter, this is the most important and epic event in the history of this universe. All of these are truths.2 points

We all know Green Day aren't going to create some half-arsed shitty excuse for three albums. If they're doing this, they're gonna do it properly. I'm sure that f they didn't have enough incredible songs to fill three albums they wouldn't for a second consider doing anything other than choosing the best and putting them on one. They obviously have so many epic songs that they absolutely love and feel they need to share with the world, I don't see how any fan could be against that!? It is bloody exciting that we're going to get SO much new music!2 points

I did NOT expect this. I'm not sure what to think. I'm kinda scared that they'll be three average albums and they're just putting out everything they've got (including the things that usually wouldn't make the final cut). I prefer quality over quantity and one masterpiece, but that might be just me. Two things are for sure: 1. The album names suck 2. I'm super excited.1 point
