  1. Just to throw this out there... it's obvious that having another guitar playing around the studio let's Billie hear and conceive of melody. Has adding Jason White on guitar for the live performances affected the way you record? Yes. I wouldn't even consider that the way we record is as a three-piece band anymore. I had to break out of the limitations of being in a trio because there are only so many things that you can do with three people - at least for our particular style of music. And as soon as I started thinking about what we could do with other members in the band, it opened up my songwriting a lot. Now I'm able to write for two or even three different guitar parts, and also for piano and sax and things like that.

  2. You're always a Debbie Downer, dude. What makes you think it WON'T be? Sure, it's nothing Green Day has ever done before...... and that's EXACTLY what Billie says in the video. Wish we still had neg rep

  3. i agree with all of you !! ...and i really think that it's NOT going to be a concept album from all we've already heard...the songs they'e played on the secret shows, the setlist which contains some songs from the secret shows and the videos have all shown that it's - at least in my opinion - not going to be a concept album...it all sounds like they're producing something more back to their roots, something more raw, but also new and not completely like their old stuff...that's at least from what i've heard till now

  4. In my opinion I don't think it's going to be a concept album. Almost 8 years of their career have been a bit overshadowed by the principal itself that " 3 snot nosed punks managed to to create grandiose rock operas." And I mean no disrespect to American Idiot or 21st Century Breakdown. In my opinion they're two of the most brilliant albums ever to be recorded. I just think that Billie, Mike, and Tre wouldn't want that brilliance to be turned into a gimmick, or for them to end up being known only as "the band that turns out a concept album every few years." American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown are amazing in their own right, and i'm sure GD wouldn't want to jeopardize that by making the idea old. Green Day has always been about taking risks and switching things up, which is why I feel the upcoming album is going to be fresh, new, and extremely exciting. Of course the music is still going to contain that signature Green Day sound, but there's no doubt in my mind GD will figure out a way to bring a new energy to that sound, while at the same time taking a fresh new step in their great career. In the words of Billie Joe - "The day you become old is the day you're not looking for new experiences anymore." I guess that explains why Billie looks so damn good.

  5. I went and saw the play opening night in Minneapolis and loved the shit out of it! Made me laugh, made me cry.. Loved it so much, I bought two more tickets when I got home and went with my mother the next night, and it was even better the second time around. Today, I finished framing the poster, playbook, and one of those little "Love Happend Here" flyers Whatsername throws during 'She's a Rebel' ( I snagged one off the stage when everyone was leaving ;P ). Just an amazing experience.

  8. I know I've kept my opinions on this private and haven't posted about it, but why does everyone care whether or not Jason is an official member of not? Why does it matter? I really want to know why it's a big deal to you all. Is it going to change your views on the band? If so, that's ridiculous. He's a great musician and can be credited for a small amount of Green Day's success ever since the turn of the millennium. If he's not a credited member of Green Day, then so be it. Great! But if he's not, then so bed it. Great! It really doesn't make a difference. He hasn't hurt Green Day, he's helped them tremendously, as pointed out by Mercury above.

  9. Well, Becky - what did you think? How did it compare to Broadway? (And yes, I know Green Day wasn't there to play a couple of songs at the end, you'll have to overlook that!! )

  10. I think the main thing stopping him is probably that he just doesn't want all the extra hassle of being an official member and doing interviews and photo shoots and all that. Just doesn't seem like he's interested in the limelight. If he contributes to the recording or writing I won't be surprised because they're such good friends and he wrote and recorded on Stop Drop And Roll as well as writing and recording with Billie in Pinhead Gunpowder, so they're well used to working with him in the studio. If he does that it doesn't mean he has to become an official member though. That'll be down to whether he wants to or not. My guess is not.

  12. Heh. Kobak. I only saw his St. Jimmy once (maybe twice). However, there was this one show, around the time of the Tonys where the showtimes were strange. He thought it started at 8 but it was actually 7. The stage manager just told him to stay home since they didn't really need him as a swing. Then about at St. Jimmy, Brian banged his head on something backstage so they called Kobak in since Omar was already in for Declan. Kobak literally drove his motorcycle in, got into costume & was in the show for Brian by LOTAG. Then for the rest of the show, Omar went in Brian's track & Kobak was in Declan's. They both are awesome so I hope I get to see both of them on next weekend.
