Wow. Just wow. So, I found out about this show at 6:30 when I randomly decided to check Facebook. I'd originally had no intentions of going to the show. As some reviewers had said, maybe if this was fifteen years ago and Bush and Jane's Addiction were still relevant but nowadays? Not so much. But then, Green Day was announced as the headliner! I live over an hour away so, at best, I could make it there by 8, and by then, even the scalpers were starting to leave. I had one guy on the phone all the way there, trying to convince him to hold a ticket for me but he eventually got sick of me telling him I was only "five minutes away" for the fifth time. So, I arrive with no ticket at about 7:45, begrudgingly pay the absolutely ridiculous $35 parking fee, and run all the way to the box office from the back of the parking lot. Two girls in front of me try to buy floor tickets but are told that they've been sold out for weeks. So, slightly crushed, I get up to the front, hoping for whatever they can give me. And after a couple agonizing minutes, the woman tells me there is exactly one floor seat available. Holy shit! And the best part of it is that it's actually cheaper than the side seats the girls in front of me got. So, I buy it and race inside. The floor is absolutely jam packed but, miraculously, by the time Florence + the Machine start playing, I'm two-third of the way towards the front. By Mumford & Sons, I'm three people from the front. By Green Day, I'm against the barricade, right in front of Mike. I just stood there that entire set change, thinking how absolutely ridiculous this all was. That I'd shown up about 2 hours after the concert had already started without a ticket and had managed to have the absolute best spot in the, by then, sold-out 20,000 people stadium. Unreal. And then Santa came out to introduce Green Day. Awesome. The first thing I noticed is that there is a new "Green Day" logo on Tre's drum set. You can see it in some of the photos from the show and it's distinctly different than the 21st Century Breakdown logo that used to be on his set. I was at the Tiki Bar show and I definitely don't remember seeing that set there. Maybe it's a sign they're far enough in the new album process that they have a new logo? It's funny but it looks a little bit like the Harry Potter logo. The second thing I notice is that Jason wasn't there. For the first time that I can remember, this was Green Day as a three-piece unit. Anyways, they bust into Welcome to Paradise and, well, the crowd was kind of unenthusiastic. I think it's the fact that everyone else who'd managed to get floor seats had probably been there for Jane's Addiction but whatever, I was going to rock the fuck out no matter what. And I have to say, this entire show made me feel like I'd time travelled back to the 90's. It honestly felt like some lost show from their Nimrod tour. With only a handful of "Hey oh's" and none of their usual theatrics, this was the most "punk" that I'd ever seen the group. And more importantly, they just seemed happy. I don't think there was a single moment the entire show that the three of them didn't just have huge grins on their faces. This was definitely not a chore for them. They clearly love playing. I've seen Green Day six times now, including at the DNA Lounge in 2009 and the Tiki Bar over the summer and this was easily the most bad ass I've ever seen them. With only an hour and a half to play, this was just punk song after punk song. As anyone who's seen their huge scale stadium shows knows, there's always a bit of a lull somewhere in the middle. Whether it's a song you've heard a dozen times or whatever, there's always been that moment for me that slows things down but finally, this time, there was no lull. It was an absolutely perfect blast of a set. While I would've loved to have heard Dookie in full, this was still one of the best shows I've ever been to. And this is even coming from someone who thinks American Idiot is the finest album ever created and they only played one song from that album in this set. On a final note though, can I just say fuck the people in charge of Oracle Arena. Not Live 105. They did an amazing job getting Green Day here and keeping the energy up for the show (despite the absolutely horrendous karaoke between sets...) but the suits in charge of keeping the curfew can go fuck off and die. I say this because before Green Day played their last song, I saw Billie Joe say to Mike, "Let's play this one and then try a couple new songs." I even overheard the security guards talking and they said they saw 21 songs on Green Day's setlist. They were absolutely ready to play all night. The Live 105 DJ's were rocking out. Everyone was ready for Green Day to keep playing. And then after American Idiot, they were whisked off stage without even really getting to say goodnight. So yeah, fuck you Oracle Arena. Not only did you charge $35 for parking but you basically kicked your headliner off stage. I understand it's a festival show and they have time limits but I couldn't help feeling a little disappointed by that. Having said that, Green Day still absolutely blew me away like it was the first time I was seeing them. I can't wait to see them again and if Tre's fancy new drum set is any indication, that might not be too long from now.11 points

I just got home from the show! It was awesome. It was a fantastic Friday night, not expecting to be at a Green Day show tonight. I was home checking twitter and saw that LIvenation tweeted about the show tonight at the arena. It was about 5:30. Well show was starting at 6:00 and the tickets for this concert went on sale back in November, so I didn't think there would be many left at the box office. I live an hour away from Oakland but my hubby said let's go! So we get in the car about 6:00 and with traffic I got down there about 7:15. So we pay $35.00 to park in the lot and go directly to the box office to buy tickets. There were some people who were trying to sell their own tickets, because they didn't want to see the show since Jane's Addiction wasn't playing. We got to the window andthe show was not sold out. Paid $59.00 for each ticket. She gives me Sec 127 row 2 which is side stage. We get to our seats and we are like 10 feet from the stage. It was also in the VIP area by backstage so we could see all the stuff going on for the show. I get there and Bush is playing, so we waited through that and the other 2 acts. First I see Billie Joe's sisters Anna and Hollie walk by to go to there seats 2 sections away from us. While we are sitting watching the show waiting for Green Day, my husband looks next to him and sees Tre is standing there 3 feet from us drinking a beer and watching Mumford and Sons. Our seats were elevated next to the walkway going to backstage. Green Day is about ready to come on and Joey and Stevey and Joey's cousin Andrew come out with some of their friends and stand in front of us. I see Adie, her sister Natalie and Jakob walk out and stand against the rail/wall in front of us. Mike's wife Brittany was sitting in a chair at the edge of the stage behind some speakers. She was goofing around while they were setting up the stage for Green Day. Green Day come on stage and it was awesome! They played and then Bille Joe talked with audience about how they didn't know 6 hours ago they would be playing tonight. He had a tshirt that said OAKLAND on it and talked about home being in Oakland. When he came to my side of the stage he stuck his tongue out at Adie and looked at us and smiled. Billie Joe was fantastic as always and having alot of fun with the audience. It was not a Green Day crowd, so not everyone knew the songs, but those there seemed to be into it. They weren't on long enough, but it was still great!! No encore, just ended with American Idiot and they said good night. That picture that Adie posted on twitter, I was just to the left of that. The seats were great! Florence from Florence and the Machine was standing next to us all through the show and rocking out! When Billie Joe called her name she started jumping up and down and then ran over to the stage and jumped up there while Bille Joe said something about how great a singer she is and dedicated Burnout to her. She came back over and just started rocking out again.2 points

If someone can tell me how to post videos and pictures directly into a post, I'll post them all asap. Where I was (center barricade) everyone was totally rocking out during Green Day. Florence mentioned Green Day coming up, and you could tell she's a HUGE fan, and the same with Mumford--they said they couldn't believe they were playing a show with GD and couldn't wait to see them. AND the banjo player for Mumford crowd-surfed during Green Day haha! Also, security were telling us before GD came out that they didn't care about the curfew, and were already prepared to write a check for whatever amount necessary to pay any fines for playing longer. They were scheduled to play for 1.5 hours instead of the 40 minutes originally allotted for Jane's Addiction.1 point

haha the girl next to the man is my daughter Laurel, and I'm next to her (my shoulder's in the pic). This was just so unbelievable--WE WERE FIRST IN LINE!! (there for Florence and Mumford, and were going to leave before Jane's lol). 11 minutes before doors we found out that Jane's was canceling and Green Day was playing--we couldn't believe it! I texted Live 105, and they texted me back and told me it was true. We got into th arena first, and were front and dead center at the barricade. Loved all the bands, and couldn't believe we were going to see Green Day too! I went to both bay area secret shows (1-2-3-4 Go! and the Mezzanine) but my daughter couldn't go to either because she isn't 21, so she was BEYOND excited! The set-list was fucking amazing! I have lots of pics and some videos--I'll post a link a little later today.1 point

I got my sign ready and my Green Day tshirt is nice and clean! Oh, and since I also play guitar, I was going to include a little guitar part in my video just incase if not enough people could fill the parts. (I think that won't be a problem though.) You don't have to use it unless there's not enough people. We all very excited too for this too, Tony! And that's wonderful news! Now I'm even more excited that our video will be playing in London!1 point

Yeah I read that too, also that he's going to put it on vimeo next week. It'd be nice to see this I guess. I wonder what kind of outtakes these are though, since he said this in one of the comments: "This is not Heart Like a Hand Grenade for those who think it is. This is the part that was cut out of the film because of the time. Just to clear it up- It's the story of Whatsername and Jesus of Suburbia."1 point

It's not the Harry Potterish logo. I think it was like... before getting drums on stage: "Damn, drum set without logo. need to draw one".1 point

Billie Joe did say that "american Idiot" was their last song. Not realising that they were gonna do an encore. Maybe the Arena just said don't go back out and turned the lights on. by ohkateio doncakes18 uploaded by bubbadown http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XKz4E3IzKrI by Livemusicjunkie9161 point

kairi, I am sooooo happy you got to go!!!! My story is a little sad, well ok, A LOT sad. I was halfway to Oakland when I got called out for work (of all the weeks to be oncall it had to be this one) and there was an emergency situation at work that couldnt wait. So, I had to turn around... drive back to Sac and work the rest of the night. I was keeping up with the show on the forum, trying to bite back my anger and feeling sorry for myself, but such is life sometimes I guess.... :angry Im really happy for everyone else who went and for Mozzabillies videos, I had a little party watching them this morning wondering how amazing it must have felt to have been there!!1 point

It's hard being envious of the Bay Area/Cali people when they provide such excellent recaps. Really it's like they're providing a public service. I must rep you all later. Now if only GD would play a show to get me out of my work party next week...1 point

This next video is when Billie Joe got everybody to sing Happy Birthday to Tre (the radio DJ "No Name" got the audience to do it before they came on stage so it was done twice). This also includes Nice Guys Finish Last and Burn Out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nbr18tqQr7Y&feature=plcp&context=C2905cUDOEgsToPDskLiUS2EjcJT9mS04DQgBVHB1 point

If you go to Zuckerberg's Facebook, Green Day is the first band listed. I wonder if he knows Billie's anger toward it, and even cooler, if he doesn't care.1 point
