K, this may be more appropriate to a new thread about stuff we decide to do together, but I have some thoughts about it now, so here goes. Any endeavor should start with principles - like, why are you doing this? As regards 'showing appreciation' to Green Day, I think that comes naturally with buying their records and coming together at their shows to celebrate with them. It comes with giving Billie Joe a 'hey-oh', for however millionth time he asks for it - it comes from just giving of ourselves in that moment, together. We can do other stuff that reinforces us as a community - giving advice and comfort when it's asked for, talking to each other, sharing our love of the music, contributing to this forum. As regards stuff like the environment, I think do it because you believe in it, not because it's something Green Day's involved with. I think, don't trade on their name, do it for its own sake and ask anyone who's like-minded to come with you if that's what they want to do. Be true. Don't offer prizes or accolades, because doing what you believe in doesn't require any of that. Be pure. Green Day's fucking great, but they're not - nor do I think they would ever want to be - some kind of altar at which to bring our offerings. That notion disrespects both us and them. Let us inspire each other and support each other, have fun together, and most of all, fucking rock out together.2 points

and we can take random lyrics from Kerplunk?? I'm so happy!! oooohh!! Can I take " Look this direction I know it's not perfection it's just me. ...I want to bring you up again now." or would it be confusing if a actually take lyrics from the opening song? otherwise I take "Give me something to do to kill some time, take me to that place that I call home" .1 point

This thread has been fascinating to follow for the past few days. I stayed away from GDATW from the start, partly because the planning seemed weak and partly because I was short on both time and interest. As the weeks progressed, I raised my eyebrows more than a few times. Though some things were sketchy, I couldn't tell which aspects of the story were genuine and which were a scam. It seems like the community has reached a consensus that Dawn lied on several accounts. When someone breaks trust like that, it can't be recovered, no matter how many documents the offender digs out from old boxes. Regardless of where the truth lies, Dawn won't be able to convince our whole forum of her innocence. Having said that, it's been interesting to see GDC, as a family, rebound from this whole catastrophe. It speaks bounds the mod team cared to reach out to the rest of the forum, even though GDATW was not a GDA-controlled event. In light of all that's happened, a day when we get together to celebrate the band we adore will be even more special and meaningful next year. I can't wait to be part of it.1 point

I have to agree with Alex and Beth here...her personal life, military history, and medical issues were pointedly shared, even shoved into the faces of, this community. She used those issues to garner support for her cause. So, when most of that stuff turns out to be probably false....it should be fair game for discussion. There are hurt feelings and anger at being manipulated, along with lost money and lost items. I think people have been pretty calm in discussion and mature on this thread for the most part. A little snarkiness shouldn't be censured. I know Marian feels very angry about the probably falsified military record we all believed. She's married to a veteran and I imagine that makes her far angrier than most of the rest of us. To me, it absolutely cheapens the sacrifice so many real veterans gave. It sickens me and I'm not even in the military or related to anyone who was in it. All that aside, I think most of what needs to be said has probably been said. I can't think of a single potential lie that hasn't been questioned at this point. Now, we wait to see what she has to say. Or not. I doubt very much she will come on this thread. I hope the event can be saved. The idea, as envisioned by the originators was great! Even turning it into something environmental is good. But the name should be changed and Dawn Wilcox should not be permitted to have any part in it.1 point

I think there's a loss that people here are feeling on two levels. One level is the loss of money, where the solution is pretty simple (refunds, filing claims, etc). The other level is a loss of trust. If it turns out that Dawn lied, she lied to our entire community, multiple times. That's a pretty big deal, and even if it's not as pressing as people resolving their money issues, it's still certainly of importance. See, that's not really fair, because we were drawn into her personal life. This wasn't something she kept on the back-burner. She was telling everyone she met, including the band we all know and love, things that are potentially entirely false. It's not like we're snooping around in her personal affairs, trying to find ways to prove she's a bad person. She pretty much did that on her own. We were all led to believe plenty of things that are allegedly completely untrue, and it's not fair to tell people who want some kind of closure from that to go somewhere else.1 point

Kat, I don't know you, but feel very sorry for you and everyone else involved with this woman. Her reputation is a total loss now (at least it appears that way in this community), but it's sad to see other people go down with her. If you really are "Switzerland," I'd ask you to really take a look at the facts as they've been presented and ask yourself what you really believe. Not what you WANT to believe, but what is actually believable to a reasonable person. It's very sad to me that you feel compelled to be her voice on this forum, when she is evidently reading it as well as making phone calls to you and others. She most certainly can and should speak for herself. I don't think her lousy excuses really deserve any more attention or time from the good people in this community - who are the overwhelming majority as evidenced by this thread. But out of respect for and, quite frankly, feeling insulted on behalf of people who I love and admire who are real veterans, have made real sacrifices, and people who have and who are *really* dying of cancer, I'm going to post the following: I thought she was in a mental hospital? Which is it? Liver surgery or suicide? And you know, I've run across several people in my life who, when backed into a corner with no way out of a fat stack of lies, start screaming they'll kill themselves so people will back off. That's why jails have suicide watch cells. To that I say, people who are really suicidal just do it. They don't call other people crying about it. That's just a plea for attention, and that has quite obviously been Dawn's goal in this whole situation. I think the attention thing backfired when she didn't think the American Airlines thing through all the way beforehand. She got everyone's attention then, but not in the way she'd hoped. And what kind of cancer does Dawn have? Has she told you? What stage is it in? Where is she in the hospital? I'm assuming this would be the other invisible military hospital near Ft. Hood or maybe another magical place that accepts Tricare or VA health insurance. If she's really a disabled vet, she's insured with Tricare and they pay Medicare rates. No private practice oncologist would accept that when she could be seen at the VA or Army hospitals. I know, because my husband is also a veteran, and before we had private health insurance, we had to go to the VA. By the way, who is her oncologist? Most people with terminal cancer are practically on a familial-level with their doctor. My best guess at this is that American Airlines has obtained an injunction against her speaking about the incident any further. Corporate lawyers are bulldogs and will go for blood. It's speculation, but I'd think that's why all the social media accounts disappeared at the same time. That, or she's gotten a threat of a lawsuit from them. Like I said, it's a guess - but I think it's a pretty good one. All I can say is PLEASE. Really? I'm glad that Dawn basically repeated verbatim to you what I posted a couple of pages ago about what soldiers receive when they are decorated. And no, she's quite wrong. The medal is perfectly replaceable. My grandfather's was destroyed in a house fire and it was replaced. People buy replacements every day. What you can't replace is an authentic DD214 showing which medals you are authorized to wear - and that's a DD214 coming from the archives, not from Dawn's Photoshop. I'd like to see a copy of hers. Where is that, by the way? They're public record under the Freedom of Information Act, and I'm sure Fox News requested one either before or after they ran her story. Everyone knows Fox loves a good soldier worship story. If she'd be so kind as to sign her name to this form, we could have a copy sent to you, and you could scan and post it for us. I won't hold my breath on that, though. Since she hasn't signed a check to NRDC or even bothered to message people about things they've paid for but not received, I doubt any real validation of her story is likely to take place. Could we see a picture of her Purple Heart certificate? Or even a picture of HER in Afghanistan... or Iraq. I don't know anyone who has been deployed who hasn't come back with pictures of that. Where is her combat Unit patch on her uniform? I don't know of a single soldier who's seen a deployment who would be seen without that on. I have a very good friend who graduated from West Point, class of '03, and who was actually deployed twice - once to Iraq and once to Afghanistan. He's out now, but I sent him a link to Dawn's interview, and this is what he had to say: "VERY IMPORTANT: SHE IS NOT WEARING A COMBAT UNIT PATCH ON HER RIGHT SHOULDER UNDER THE AMERICAN FLAG. Combat patches are a religion in the Army. If I was going to put on my uniform again, I can guarantee that my combat patch would be on the right shoulder sleeve. Basically it's the unit patch of any unit you have been to combat with. A bare right sleeve is a sign to other soldiers that you ain't shit and that you have not seen a deployment. You want to tell people that you have been to war. Why doesn't she have that on?" "Another weird thing. She is not wearing her rank on her ACU cap....There really isn't a reason why she wouldn't have her rank on her soft cap. If she was deployed, she would have worn the soft cap around the FOB when not on duty or patrol. No rank means that someone would have homed in on her ass to ask why she had no rank on her soft cap. Very weird. On a non-provable note, she has the look of one of my Mom's ER patients trying to get pain-killers. So strange here." The database I referred to was not the Purple Heart database, but the database kept of all US casualties in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. There are ZERO casualties listed in either place on the date Dawn gave in her interview. I doubt very seriously someone would get that date wrong, seeing as it has such a tremendous significance - and it would be noted on their Purple Heart certificate, as well. And no, your MOS is your job. You don't have a "day job" and a "war job." What you are in the military is what you do - whether stateside or deployed. If she were deployed as Dental Technician, her job would have been cleaning people's teeth, not going "on routine patrol." Even if we went so far as to give her the benefit of the doubt that she actually was a combat medic (and I don't, but for the sake of argument...), it's highly unlikely that she would have been on "routine patrol" with a combat arms unit. That's what male combat medics are for. Females still aren't allowed in combat arms positions in the US military. This has been emphasized by both my husband (who was combat arms, 19D - Cavalry Scout, and then a scout sniper) and our friend who is currently a full-bird Colonel in Army JAG Reserve. All that to say - her story is insulting to people who have seen real action, who have really been injured, and who have given up their lives fighting overseas. It cheapens those sacrifices, and I take exception to it for them. Again, she told Fallyn's friend that she's in a mental hospital? I guess that is one that also specializes in laparoscopic surguries?? Going out on another limb here, but I'm wondering if the "non-profit" status was just an attempt to avoid paying taxes off of all the money she was making planned to "donate." There are quite a few of us Green Day fans who have experience and knowledge with the legal system. I'd be willing to bet that she could have gotten this non-profit status for free - especially if she'd just done the paperwork herself. It's not that big of a deal. But then again, I still don't see the necessity of being a non-profit to donate to a non-profit. How about just ask people to donate to NRDC in honor of Green Day? Most charities give space on donations to the money to be in honor or memory of one. Good luck to you on that. I hope Dawn gets well, too. And I hope above all, that the people who have been wronged here get answers, apologies, and refunds, and that Dawn can be a big girl and issue all of the above - herself, and not through another hapless victim.1 point

This whole thread just makes me sad. Sad for everyone on here and everywhere else that trusted her. For Tony and Tanya because they opened their hearts and were burnt. (Neither of you should feel bad. You were doing what you thought was a good thing at the time. Rememer, hindsight is 20/20.) Even a bit sad for Dawn. My heart wants to believe she had good intentions even if my brain is telling she was just lying to get to spend time with Billie Joe. Sad that an amazing day of environmental clean-up may never happen again (with Green Day fans from around the world) because of the bad taste this has left. To me, that would be the saddest part in all of this.1 point

Hi everyone, sorry I haven't been around lately. I still check in sometimes though and I seen this thread and just wanted to make a quick post. First off I think you guys are handling this brilliantly and it's very kind of you to try and sort this out a bit. I think this thread is a great idea so we can try and piece all our info together and come to some sort of conclusion and closure. Please nobody feel guilty or stupid or naive about any of this. None of us were in the wrong, nobody is going to naturally think someone is lying about such huge things for seemingly no reason. I and I think many others always felt some things seemed a little fishy and were uncomfortable with some aspects of this project. Taking into consideration what Dawn told us about her, I let a lot of that go, believing she needed to do it her way for comfort. Obviously now I know a lot of what she said about herself was not true. I don't doubt however that she's ill in some other ways which I think helps explain this situation a bit. I know we have to be careful about what we say of course. This is a somewhat random piece of info but I remember during the conversations before the event on here, people were giving opposing opinions to hers and confronting her about a few things and a new account popped up arguing alongside her. It was quite obviously her because the grammar, etc was the same and it was formatted to the left, that I remember clearly. Nobody seemed to say anything about that though, although maybe some others noticed. I wasn't going to say anything because I still felt quite bad for her and thought she was just very upset and passionate about her beliefs. I think also she stayed logged into that account for one post where it was meant to be her (Dawn) again. I hope you guys understand, I know it's a bit complicated. Thankfully I never ended up being monetarily involved. I had planned to collect money at the Irish event and send it to her though, to be donated but it never went ahead, party due to my suspicions and uncomfortableness but I didn't let on to anyone at the time. (Maybe I should have :\ but I think we were all a little unsure but never expected things to turn as messy as this.) Like I said, the Irish event ended up not happening anyways. I was the main team leader and was too ill at the time to sort it out and with no-one else that interested it just sort of disintegrated. It turned out I probably wouldn't have been able to go anyways. In hindsight, we probably should have stopped her from taking sole control of it all but I think we all seen how much she wanted that and with respect and admiration at the time we let her get on with it. Thinking about it, I doubt that whole web developer stealing her money thing was true, and maybe she made that site herself. It's hard to believe a web developer would make her a site on wix. I also doubt she put as much money into it as she claimed. It does however seem she put some money and a lot of (perhaps misplaced) effort into it. At the end of the day, I think she actually did want this event to happen and did want to donate to charity. I don't think she intentionally wanted to take people's money for herself or scam anyone, I just think she got extremely carried away and isn't thinking clearily. It seems to me that she desperately wanted recognition and praise and maybe approval from Green Day, esp Billie Joe. I could be entirely wrong of course. I think it all started to catch up with her recently and she realised she's been found out so that's why she's disappeared. I hope for everyone's sake she comes back and apologises, comes clean and rights some wrongs. That would be good. It's very unfortunate what happened but I suppose we should try to remember some nice things were still done by her and a lot of good still came from this all. Maybe even more good than bad. Good luck to everyone trying to get their money back and/or items and a sincere "that sucks ass" to people who donated money. Just remember you did it with brilliant intentions and we all know that. I got to say, the purple heart thing really upsets me though. :\ Billie Joe has been dealing with various incidents and fans for a looong time now though so I'm sure it wont matter that much. It just seems so wrong though. Even though it's upsetting, I kind of hope he finds out.. Maybe he already has, who knows. Anyways, I also hope Dawn finds whatever she was looking for and gets better soon. It's never too late to make a change and I do think she's a good person deep down. We all have our issues. Sorry I can't be of more help guys, if I remember/think of anything that could help I'll make sure to post.1 point

A disabled soldier having cancer would have been too easily sensationalized for any media to pass up. There's a reason she didn't mention that. There's also a reason Fox News reported her injury as having taken place at a dentist's office in Texas in 2006. They're absolutely not my news of choice, but they're not dumb enough to print something that is as easily substantiated as that, either. Her previous MOS (military occupational specialty) was listed on her FB page, about a month or two before the AA incident. Google it: 68E, Dental Technician. I completely understand everyone desperately wanting to find some sort of good in this because no one wants to believe they've been taken advantage or made a fool of. I sympathize with Tony a great deal because he shouldn't be made to feel any guilt over supporting what he saw as a worthy cause. I didn't donate any money, but my husband and I did install attic fans in our house on May 28th (as a "green" project). So I participated to that degree. But as soon as I saw that she was trying to raise funds on FB to achieve non-profit tax status, that instantly raised red flags. You don't need to BE an non-profit to DONATE to a non-profit. Just donate directly to the non-profit and skip the middle man. I didn't really take much notice, though, until the American Airlines story came out, and the inconsistencies became glaringly obvious. There are obviously some serious lies involved here - criminal ones - and I doubt very seriously that much of what she has said can be believed at this point. At least I wouldn't believe it until she proves otherwise. People who have told such bold lies are unlikely to tell the truth about less important instances. And for the record, I don't "play law firm." I do that for a living. This is not "fun time" to me. I have only attempted to help people - with absolutely no other motive than I don't like seeing people wronged and I hate liars. The very first person who bought something and received a fake from Dawn was Billie Joe. He bought her story and she gave him a fake Purple Heart.1 point

It is not for anyone here to uncover the truth...whatever that is, as to GDATW. What is important is to get the word out so nobody funnels any money to the organization and gets the word out that they may have been the victim of fraud. Its an unfortunate situation and lets try and protect anyone else from getting hurt. We're better than this and we know it.1 point

the first picture I saw of him, was the one in the RockAgainstBush II booklet When I saw the making of AI on TV, a few weeks before its release, I was totally...you know... like struck by lightning or whatever you may call it... yeah, listening to the songs and hearing about his life creates a kind of bond. And I agree with " I feel like I know him more than I do some of my "friends," and I haven't even met him before". the Rev is a sexmachine xD However, I totally agree with BillieJoezee's statement ...anyway, let's post pictures (we have to fill another 500 pages )1 point

I can understand what you r saying, because I agree! It's funny but sometimes, I just think something like that: We know Billie Joe, his thoughts, how he is passion with music, and his lyrics, his talent, all those things, and it's like a result, I mean, he seems sexy and gorgeous too (and I think that).... but in some pictures I dont think that he is SO GORGEOUS.... and sometimes, I think Tre is more gorgeous than Billie Joe. But Billie Joe gotta something, like a LIGHT y'know, that makes him so special to us!!!! A Guns and Roses's FAN, think that Axl Roses is the best man EVER, sexy, hot, handsome... all things that we think about Billie Joe .... It's weird, but most people who arent Green Day's fan, dont think like us, about Billie Joe... and I think it's because we know HOW Billie is.... well whatever... he's sexy sometimes, and gorgeous in another.... but I dont think he is the MOST GORGEOUS of the world.... Reverend Strychnine is sexier than BILLIE JOE!!! :wub:1 point
